XAVI PORRAS STARTS THE SEASON

With the intention of reaching the minimum mark to qualify for the Paralympic Games in Rio, Xavi Porras is starting the season on Saturday with his participation in the Championship of Spain in Alfaz del Pi, Valencia.

The athlete from Olot is going to try to get a jump of 6,16 certifying his passport with the minimum mark A for those which will be his fourth game after Athens'04, Beijing'08 and London'12. The minimum B is at 6.07 and Xavi is confident "that we can get it even though we are not at the optimum point of preparation. We need to do much more speed and jumps."

"I face this test raring. With my coach, Miguel Torralba, we are working on a series of changes that we hope will help us to fight for medal in Rio. From now on I'll jump 18 strides instead of 16 and Miguel will be placed before the take-off area. With these differences we hope to reach 6.40 / 6.50 and fight for the podium in Rio, "said the athlete known as XP.

Despite the good feelings, the FC Barcelona jumper is aware that "it will be the first competition with this new style" but adds that "the competitive start always generates you a great motivation."
